How to type on a PDF

Got a form to fill in or a contract to sign, but it's a flat PDF with no fields to click? You don't need Acrobat or a printer. You can type your answers straight onto the page and add a hand-drawn signature — all in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Fill & Sign PDF — free & private

Step by step

  1. Open the Fill & Sign tool. Go to the Fill & Sign PDF page and add your PDF.
  2. Add a text box. Click Add text, then start typing. Drag the box onto the line or field where it belongs, and use A− / A+ to match the size of the surrounding text.
  3. Repeat for each field. Add a text box for every answer — name, date, address, and so on.
  4. Add your signature. Click Add signature, draw it with your mouse or finger, then place and resize it where it needs to go.
  5. Download. Click Download PDF and your filled, signed document is saved with everything baked in.

It even works on scanned forms

Because your text and signature are drawn on top of the page, this works on any PDF — including scanned documents and forms that were never made fillable. There are no form fields to detect; you just place text wherever you need it.

Tips

  • Zoom in to line things up. Position text boxes carefully over the lines so the result looks neat when printed.
  • Match the text size. Use the A− / A+ buttons so your answers look like they belong on the form.
  • Sign once, place anywhere. Draw your signature, then drag and resize it — handy if a document needs initials in several spots.

Is it private?

Yes — and that matters for contracts and personal forms. Everything happens inside your browser, so your document and signature never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my signature?

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. Text and signatures are drawn on top of the page, so it works on scanned documents and non-fillable forms.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The text and signature are added entirely in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device.
